October 2000, realising Douglas' lifelong dream to run his own restaurant. It's very much a family run affair with Douglas in the kitchen, Elizabeth handling front of house and Sara Bright, who has been with us since January 2006.Trained in the classical style, Douglas worked for British Transport Hotels for many years, putting in time at the prestigious Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland, as well as many other four and five star establishments around the UK. The greatest influence on his career, however, was a three month stage course at triple Michelin star holder Michel Guérards's famous restaurant in south west France.
Located in the picturesque town of Topsham near Exeter La Petite Maison has built an enviable reputation as one of the very best restaurants in the area. Crisp white linen table cloths and stylish decor enhance this classy intimate restaurant. Using the finest local produce Chef and joint proprietor Doug Pestell is rightly receiving local and national praise. Service is friendly, efficient and unrushed.
La Petite Maison has always been regarded very highly by locals, hence the reason booking is essential particularly at weekends. The menu changes regularly and, seasonal ingredients are prominent . The wine list is excellent and it is clear as much thought has gone in to this as the food.
